Biography | Raffaele Gareri is CoFounder and CEO of Urban Futures Srl, a startup studio focused on Urban Innovation and partner at Urban Innovators Global. He is also President of Scientific Committee of TSCAI (The Smart City Association Italy), a not-for-profit organization for the promotion of smart city models and practices which he co-founded in 2018 becoming the first President. He spent two years in Tiscali as Chief Government Officer in charge of the “Future Communities” Program, an initiative to design and build platforms, models and tools for supporting digital transformation in urban communities. Raffaele worked for over 25 years in the local governments, first in Province of Brescia and lately in Roma Capitale, in which he hold various top management positions. He coordinated various local and national innovation projects, some of which financed and awarded by Ministries and excellence private national and international institutions. In particular, when in Roma Capitale, he designed the Roma Smart City Plan, a digital programme for the economic and social development of the city, co-designed with different departments of the municipality, as well as with other city stakeholders (universities, associations, chamber of commerce and public in-house companies). Previosuly, for over 2 years he hold the role of President of Ento (European Network of Training Organization), an association of the Council of Europe and was co-author with Bas Boorsma of the book A New Digital Deal 2020 Italian Edition, which deals with models for Smart Cities and how to best use Digitization at the service of our communities. Years ago, he led the implementation of a public initiative to address the digital divide in some rural areas of the province of Brescia by providing a wireless Internet connection in over 120 small municipalities. This project was awarded at the Computer Honoris Honoris Program in Washington, D.C., in June 2008. He participated in the founding of the eLeader Forum Club with Cisco, the Province of Brescia and the Borough of Hillingdon (UK), an international community to share experiences and solutions in innovation with local governments. She worked with MIT in Boston to experiment with how young people can self-organize in ridesharing using mesh wristbands and wearables. Raffaele graduated in Electronic Engineering in Genoa and obtained a Masters in Management of Local Authorities at Bocconi University in Milan. He has hold various lectures at the Polytechnic of Milan, at the University of Brescia, at Luiss Business School in Rome and at the HSE University of St. Petersburg on the subjects of innovation. Today he actively participates in some international communities dedicated to Smart Cities, public-private partnerships and data governance. |
