Dear members,
On June 18th 2025, during the monthly community call, we had the honour to have Karoliina (Karo) Kauhanen, present her start-up of the month to us. This company, one of the winners of the Challenges during the Imagine the CitiVerse event in Tampere, Finland, invites cities and citizens to engage in meaningful ways simply by asking and offering help. They call themselves playfully ‘Tinder for Good Deeds’, but are better known as “Commuapp”or simply “Commu”.
This young and rapidly growing start up, mentioned in the Forbes 30 under 30, is going to assist the Thames Freeport Association in London to solve one of their most pregnant challenges: how can the CitiVerse can make vulnerable residents more visible to organisations that can provide support?
Karo pitched her ideas and shows that helping others is beneficial, not only for the receiver and the giver, but also for the cities Commu operates in. The data, completely anonymised, provides cities with valuable insights where most help is needed, where vulnerable citizens live and what it is they need most. Policy making made easy!
Commu already works in multiple cities and countries across Europe. The app is currently available in 7 languages and Commu is expanding rapidly. Please have a look for further details at: https://commuapp.fi/en/. Your city will benefit as well!
